Packeteer has released a network appliance designed to manage WAN application traffic at remote and branch offices. The new appliance, 1200 Series, is aimed at delivering application visibility, application control, compression, and centralized management.

The 1200 is an integrated, four-in-one product with Layer 7 classification, control, compression and enterprise-wide central management and reporting, and is designed for controlling WAN performance and application QoS in enterprises with 10 or more remote sites and branch offices. Its capabilities include

  • Delivering network monitoring, application-level control, and compression at link speeds up to 2 Mbps within the same platform

  • Automatically identifying and responding to new applications and new or suspicious hosts on the network

  • Providing per-flow data on hosts and applications to troubleshoot network issues in real-time

  • Enabling the successful rollout of new infrastructures and applications, including MPLS and Voice Over IP

  • Creating a centralized reporting and management system for every appliance.

The 1200 Series is available immediately from authorized Packeteer reseller and service provider partners worldwide. Manufacturer's suggested list price (MSLP) in the U.S. starts at $2,150.
