ZICHRON YAACOV, Israel — Royal Philips Electronics has signed an agreement with Metalink Ltd. to use its 5-GHz 802.11 standard WiFi wireless communications solutions for Philips' TVs, set-top boxes and home media adapters.

As a result, Philips expects to offer wireless solutions for transmitting high-definition content at five to 10 times faster than current speeds. Philips products containing Metalink processors will become available next year.

The combined solution will turn the PC into a multimedia center; a wireless link between the PC and TV would make it possible to send high-definition Internet content directly to the TV.
