SEATTLE, July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Isilon Systems (NASDAQ:ISLN) , the proven leader in scale-out NAS, today announced that its Isilon IQ S-Series has set the performance bar with the first-ever benchmark result for scale-out NAS, delivering more than 46,000 operations per second (IOPS), as tested using the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) sfs2008 benchmark. Leveraging Isilon's OneFS operating system and unique clustered architecture, the Isilon IQ 5400S delivered 46,635 IOPS, with a corresponding overall response time of 1.91 milliseconds. With this benchmark, Isilon IQ is the first scale-out NAS solution to publish the SPECsfs2008 benchmark, demonstrating its continued commitment to providing enterprise businesses with high-performance, highly scalable, scale-out storage solutions for powering the most data-intensive and transactional file-based workflows.

"As enterprise data centers adopt virtualized infrastructures to drive improved performance for process-heavy workloads, data storage must keep pace by delivering solutions with high transactional performance," said Sam Grocott, senior director of product management, Isilon Systems. "As the first and only scale-out NAS system to publish the SPECsfs2008 benchmark, Isilon is demonstrating its commitment to delivering scalable, transactional storage performance for server virtualization, as well as for data-intensive workflows across such industries as design and simulation, and media and entertainment."

For the SPECsfs2008 benchmark test, Isilon used a 10 node 5400S cluster, delivering 54 terabytes (TB) in a single file system. The 5400S is capable of scaling to 144 nodes in a single cluster and single file system, providing linear scalability of IOPS, throughput, and capacity as additional nodes are added to the cluster. By significantly increasing file-based transactional performance, the Isilon IQ 5400S enables enterprises to deploy mission-critical applications, accelerate business processes, and speed time-to-market.

In addition to high transactional performance, Isilon's full range of scale-out NAS solutions also deliver industry-leading throughput to power the highly concurrent data access demands of server virtualization, as well as the data-intensive applications found in media and entertainment, life sciences, and design and simulation. Using Isilon IQ, enterprise businesses can scale performance and capacity linearly or independently, providing maximum flexibility in matching system performance to workflow demands.
