SDN: An Innovator Reflects

In an industry long defined by hardware speeds and feeds, software-defined networking was revolutionary when it emerged more than a decade ago. Today, most networking vendors offer something called SDN, although the term has taken on many meanings. In this podcast, Martin Casado, who pioneered SDN while a PhD student in computer science at Stanford, talks with the Network Collective crew about his early work. The self-described "failed physicist" talks about what he was trying to solve at Stanford, and how that work led to the creation of Nicira, which VMware acquired in 2012 for $1.2 billion. Today, Casado is a general partner at VC firm Andreessen Horowitz. In the podcast, he also talks about the potential of SDN to help bridge the digital divide.
